LESSONS FROM THE GARDEN · AUGUST SERIES
Our little orchard is a lively place right now. The grapevine is laden with grapes, the wild blackberries are ripe, and the apples are slowly maturing.
The deer—and Bear, Max, and Grace—are already enjoying the bounty. The dogs happily eat the apples whether they are ripe or not. Apparently, their philosophy is: If we can reach it, it must be ready.
But the garden refuses to place everything on the same timetable.
The blackberries do not make the apples late. They are simply different fruit with different seasons. Perhaps the same is true of us.
Some prayers, healing, relationships, and dreams take longer to ripen than we expected. Yet unseen does not mean inactive.
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.”—1 Corinthians 3:6
Our part is to plant, water, and faithfully tend what God has entrusted to us. The growth—and the timing of the harvest—belong to Him.
